1991’s X-Men #1 was one of the first comic books I ever bought and it started my lifelong fascination with the X-Men. Jim Lee’s art simply blew me away, and he, along with Whilce Portacio, Rob Liefeld, and Todd McFarlane, became my first inspirations in taking up comic-book-style illustration.
Later on, I became fascinated with the art styles of the likes of Joe Madureira, Humberto Ramos, and Chris Bachalo, and their influence can clearly be seen in my current work.
This piece is my homage to one of the best-selling comic book covers of all time. Pencilled and inked traditionally on 11x17 boards, scanned, then digitally colored and enhanced.
